I believe that homemade hummus is so much better than store bought. This shouldn't be surprising, but I'm always surprised by just how much better it really is.
2.5 cups of chickpeas, preferably cooked from dried but canned and drained will work
1 teaspoon sea salt
the juice of 2 lemons
4 nicely sized cloves of garlic
a generous 1/3 cup tahini, preferably Israeli but whole foods brand will do
1/4 cup warm water
2 tablespoons good olive oil
Blend it all in the food processor until nearly smooth and enjoy with carrot sticks and sliced peppers. I like mine warm, blended right after the chickpeas have finished cooking but cold is good too.
