38/100 Days of I Believe

I believe in peony appreciation time. I made that up today and now I believe in it, forever.

Peony appreciation time, that's when everybody goes outside after dinner to admire the ginormous peonies in the front yard, blooming for the very first time.

The teenagers go outside, the sick husband goes outside. We all look at the peonies, some of us touch and smell. We all agree that we love having them in the yard. We all agree that it’s hard to resist cutting them this first year, and we don’t cut them. The sun is shining through the trees at the loveliest late spring evening angle.

I feel grateful. For the peonies, for the warm air and the sunlight, for everybody standing together in the yard for a moment in appreciation.
