Day 53/100 #100daysofseedsoflight
The flip side. Or, a continuation of yesterday’s thoughts.
And yet everything is not rosy. There are challenges galore and we all struggle. Perhaps herein lies the answer to the question, “Are you living the life?” Yes. Yes I am. Because I see and feel and experience challenge AND beauty. The challenges are hard of course, and I wouldn’t choose them, yet they stretch me and they help me to grow. The beauty is abundant, sitting side by side with the challenge.
And this seems like a good time to revisit one of my favorite poems, Rumi’s “The Guest House.”
The Guest House
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all.
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
